One cable is the ideal

Before you buy, confirm your laptop's ports. If your laptop only has HDMI, you will need a monitor with HDMI input — and likely a separate power source.
What to prioritize
Size and weight matter more than most other specs, because the monitor only works if you actually carry it. Resolution matters more on larger panels, where low resolution makes text look soft. A folding cover that doubles as a stand is close to essential.
